Hot Cue is an eight-week DJ mentorship program designed specifically for LGBTQIA+ people who want to learn the art of DJing in a supportive, inclusive and community-led environment.

Created in response to the ongoing barriers many queer people face when entering music and nightlife spaces, Hot Cue will provide participants with hands-on training, technical skills, creative development and industry insights while fostering confidence, connection and self-expression.

Participants will meet weekly for 2–3 hour sessions on Monday evenings, progressing through a structured curriculum designed to take complete beginners from their first mix to their first live set.

The mentorship will culminate in a public graduation party at Unholy Playhouse, Sydney's newest performance space, where participants will step behind the decks and perform as Sydney’s emerging!

Across eight weeks, participants will learn the foundations of DJing, including navigating rekordbox, beatmatching, phrasing, effects, equipment operation, set preparation and performance skills and moreeee…. Beyond technical knowledge, the program also explores artistic identity, dancefloor dynamics and the role that queer DJs play in shaping culture and community.

Hot Cue welcomes participants from across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, with no previous DJ experience required.
